India has prohibited many apps in the past few years, mainly due to the reasons of national security, data privacy, and sovereignty. The listed below are some of the important banned apps and their reasons for prohibition:

Reason for Ban: Fear of data security breach and misuse of personal data. The data of the users were transferring to servers outside India which was also a violation of privacy issues.

Grounds for Ban: The apps were banned because they are owned by Chinese companies, which have been accused of indulging in activities injurious to the sovereignty and integrity of India. It was also suspected that these apps encouraged extreme gaming addiction among youth.
3. CamScanner
Grounds for Ban: CamScanner was reportedly found to have malware or spyware that would jeopardize user data security.
4. SHAREit
Reason for Ban: Data sharing and transmission to external servers without proper encryption raised issues of national security.
5. UC Browser
Reason for Ban: UC Browser was accused of data harvesting and alleged transmission of sensitive data to China, thus putting users’ privacy in jeopardy.
6. WeChat
Reason for Ban: The app was viewed as a tool that could be used for surveillance and influence operations due to its origin in China.
7. Clash of Kings
Reason for Ban: The game was banned due to alleged concerns over data gathering practices that were deemed invasive and dangerous to national security.
8. Baidu Search and Baidu Maps
Reason for Ban: These apps were accused of collection and transmission of sensitive user data across national borders, thereby compromising national security.
9. Helo and Vigo Video
Reason for Ban: It shared user’s info to external servers. Apart from that, there is an allegation of making inappropriate content promotion.
10. Clean Master (Cheetah Mobile)
Reason for Ban: Allegations of spyware, data leak, and excessive permissions of the app, which would have misused user information.
11. Mi Browser Pro and Mi Community
Reason for Ban: The government was concerned with the data mining and transmitting to Chinese servers. The apps were accused of violating user policies on privacy.
12. Xender
Reason for Ban: Like SHAREit, Xender was banned for the unauthorized transmission of data to foreign institutions.
General Reason for Ban
National Security: Apps were associated with entities that were supposedly doing activities against India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
