New Delhi, 19th November 2024: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification asking Higher Education Institutions across the country to celebrate this year’s Constitution Day, which is otherwise known as Samvidhan Divas on 26th November 2024, celebrating the adoption of the Constitution of India and emphasizing its core values in the pursuit of democracy, liberty, equality, and justice.
The UGC has called for special relevance in “Constitution Day” for reflection on India’s journey in the course of democratic endeavour and reaffirmation of commitment to constitutional values. The notice invites HEIs to take a series of activities designed to educate and sensitize respect for the ideals of the Constitution.
Some of the suggested activities are:
Organize reading of Preamble to draw attention upon its values. Arrange lectures, seminars or webinars on the importance of Constitution.
Hosting of debates, quizzes, or competitions such as essay writing and poster making.
Partnership with local local colleges for encouraging participation.
The UGC has also asked HEIs to make an event on the My Bharat Portal and file the account of their Constitution Day celebrations. It is requested that the event be made as student and staff-student participatory as possible so that they learn a great deal while having fun.
Constitution Day reminds us of the unrelenting commitment of the Indian nation to its democratic principles and how each citizen has a role to play in reinforcing these values.
