A recent breakthrough by Japanese researchers indicates profound powers of vitamin D for the health of bones and prevention of cancer.
Vitamin D regulates, among other things, calcium and phosphate ions within the body, which are essential components of healthy bones and dentine. A Japanese study documented the mechanism through which vitamin D increases bone strength due to its ability to augment calcium deposition. Vitamin D indeed proved to be a crucial ally in preventing osteoporosis: a condition where a patient’s bones become brittled and fragile because of their inability to incorporate enough calcium and phosphate ions that normally harden the skeletons 20, 21.
Recent research on vitamins beyond bone health reveals a wider scope into fighting certain cancers. Apparently, it will affect cell multiplication and immune systems and have an effect that would at least slow malignant cells to develop. Scientists indicate that levels of vitamin D have shown one to be in lesser odds of developing other cancers of colorectal cancer and some cases of breast cancer. Although the precise mechanisms remain under investigation, researchers emphasize the importance of maintaining optimal vitamin D levels through diet, supplements, and sun exposure【19】【21】.
This expanding research underscores vitamin D’s critical role in human health, with ongoing studies aiming to harness its full therapeutic potential.
