Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski is an American theoretical physicist. Based in Chicago, this currently celebrated scientist has transformed high-energy physics. Sabrina’s notable work on gravitational waves and celestial holography puts her on the highest pedestal of scientific innovation and strength.

Early Life and Education

Born on June 3, 1993, Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski is a proud first-generation Cuban-American and a graduate of Chicago Public Schools. From an early age, her passion for physics and engineering stood out. As a high school student, she built and flew a single-engine plane, showing her innovative spirit and technical brilliance.

She graduated from MIT as an undergraduate in just three years, which she finished as still a teenager. She completed postgraduate studies at Harvard University, where she obtained her Ph.D. and made notable contributions to theoretical physics research. She then became a postdoctoral fellow at the Princeton Center for Theoretical Science (PCTS) at Princeton University after her postgraduation days at Harvard. When she was just 27 years old, she was appointed as a faculty member at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.

In 2014, she made headlines from her work at Harvard’s Center for the Fundamental Laws of Nature while discovering the spin memory effect. This may potentially provide a low-cost means of detection and validation of gravitational waves. Observations might be conducted during a rare celestial gravitational lensing event that is anticipated to happen in May 2028, but could occur sooner based on future technology advancements with respect to the detection of gravitational waves, such as Advanced LIGO.

Apart from her efforts in the spin memory effect, Pasterski has introduced the concept of Celestial Holography, an advanced framework in high-energy physics. She continues to bridge fundamental theories, moving the frontiers of our understanding of the universe.

Awards

Sabrina’s efforts have been appreciated worldwide. In 2015, she was included in Forbes’s “30 Under 30” Science list. By the year 2017, she became a Forbes “30 Under 30 All-Star” and later served as an on-site judge for Forbes’s all female science judging panel for its first-ever all-female science judging panel in 2018. She was the third most googled scientist globally in the year 2017.
