Sanjay Malhotra, 1990-batch IAS officer from Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed as the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) 26th governor in place of Shaktikanta Das. His three-year term starts from 11 December 2024. Before this, he had been serving as Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and has vast experience in finance, taxation, and public policy.
Malhotra holds a degree in Computer Science Engineering from IIT Kanpur and a Master’s in Public Policy from Princeton University. He has worked across different sectors such as power, IT, and mining. His leadership in financial services and tax policy formulation has been widely acknowledged during his tenure in the Ministry of Finance.
