0 Dec 19, 2024 OpenAI is expanding accessibility to ChatGPT phone calls and WhatsApp, providing users with ways to access the AI chatbot. This comes under the banner of its ongoing “12 Days of Shipmas” series that it has initiated, in which it rolls out different updates and launches.
According to OpenAI, users can now interact with ChatGPT through WhatsApp by adding it as a contact or by dialing 1-800-ChatGPT (1-800-242-8478). The service is available worldwide for WhatsApp users, but phone calling is only accessible to residents of the United States and Canada. U.S. users can enjoy 15 minutes of free voice calls per month, a feature that OpenAI intends to evolve over time.
Increased Accessibility
This feature allows its users to seek help, obtain knowledge, or just chat with ChatGPT via voice or text. OpenAI proved the potential with an example video of a person easily switching between a WhatsApp conversation with a friend to finding a French dessert recipe in a conversation with ChatGPT.

Although integration with WhatsApp allows the platform to be accessed anywhere in the world, voice calling is specifically offered to users in the United States and Canada, including flip phone and landline users. But OpenAI states that all of ChatGPT’s features, including advanced search, personalized answers, and higher usage limits, are available only on its main platform.
