0 0

Mumbai, June 2025:
In a significant move aimed at streamlining technical education admissions, the Maharashtra Government has officially introduced a Fourth Centralized Admission Process (CAP) Round and amended key rules under the “Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission to Full-Time Professional Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Integrated or Dual Degree Technical Courses) (Amendment) Rules, 2025.” The announcement comes from the Higher and Technical Education Department, signaling a broader scope and structure for admissions in the state.

Key Highlights of the Amendments:

🔹 Introduction of CAP Round IV

The updated Rule 9 now includes CAP Rounds II, III, and IV, expanding the admission window for aspiring students. According to the revised guidelines, the State CET Cell will publish the seat matrix for all three rounds on its official website. Eligible candidates can submit or revise their online option forms based on previous preferences.

The rule also empowers candidates to freeze allotted seats (outside their top three or six choices) if satisfied with their placement. Failure to report or complete the online verification process will lead to automatic cancellation of the seat.

🔹 Changes to Design Course Admission – Rule 10

The government has updated the admission criteria for First Year Design programmes. Now, admissions will be based on the UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) score conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). If any seats remain vacant after considering UCEED scores, they will be filled using the candidate’s D.Voc. marks.

🔹 New Rule for Collaborative and Twinning Programs – Rule 12(q)

A new clause, Rule 12(q), introduces a framework for admissions to collaborative and twinning programs. It clarifies that the eligibility for these courses remains the same as regular admissions, but must follow additional norms prescribed by the appropriate authority.

The clause also emphasizes that lateral entry and supernumerary seats are not permitted in such foreign collaboration or twinning programmes. Additionally, institutes will handle admissions to these programs as per Rule 13, maintaining transparency and institutional autonomy.

What This Means for Students and Institutions:

The introduction of the Fourth CAP Round provides an extended opportunity for candidates to secure admission, reducing the chances of vacant seats and allowing institutes to better manage their intake. The updated design course criteria ensure alignment with national-level entrance exams, promoting merit-based admissions.

Meanwhile, the formal recognition of collaborative and twinning modes reflects Maharashtra’s intent to globalize its technical education ecosystem and open doors for international academic partnerships.

Final Word:

These comprehensive updates to the 2025 admission rules represent a forward-thinking shift in Maharashtra’s education policy. By increasing flexibility and ensuring standardization through competitive exams and defined processes, the government aims to provide fair, transparent, and efficient admission pathways for thousands of aspirants across the state.
