New Delhi, January 25, 2025 – India marked its 15th National Voters’ Day (NVD) today with celebrations across the country, reinforcing the importance of democratic participation. The Election Commission of India (ECI) organized the main event in New Delhi, attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, and other dignitaries.

Theme for 2025: “Empowering Voters, Strengthening Democracy”

The theme for this year, “Empowering Voters, Strengthening Democracy,” highlights the significance of every citizen’s role in shaping the nation’s future. The campaign focused on increasing voter awareness, particularly among young and first-time voters, emphasizing their duty in the electoral process.

ECI’s Initiatives to Boost Voter Participation

On this occasion, the Election Commission launched several initiatives, including:

  • Voter Awareness Programs in schools, colleges, and rural areas.
  • Digital Campaigns using social media to engage youth.
  • Special Drives for new voter registration.

The Commission also released an updated voter guide and introduced a user-friendly mobile app to simplify voter registration and provide real-time polling information.

President’s Address: A Call for Active Participation

In her keynote speech, President Murmu urged citizens, especially the youth, to exercise their voting rights responsibly. She emphasized that democracy thrives when people actively participate in elections, making informed choices.

Celebrations Across States

States and Union Territories organized various activities, including rallies, debates, and voter pledge ceremonies. Schools and colleges conducted quiz competitions on electoral rights to engage students in the democratic process.

In Maharashtra, Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Deshpande led a voter awareness rally in Mumbai, while Delhi saw a massive student participation drive. In rural areas, local election officers visited villages to educate citizens about voting procedures.
