India Dominate Australia with 295-Run Victory in Border-Gavaskar Trophy Opener

India registered a commanding 295-run win over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. At Perth, Australia were left shell-shocked after dramatically shifting momentum in the game, but India remained superior in the fiercely contested game.

In reply, India bowled out Australia for a modest 150 on Day 1, and then staged a remarkable comeback, with Yashasvi Jaiswal playing a brilliant knock of 161 and Virat Kohli contributing an unbeaten century. In return, these performances turned the tide, setting Australia an improbable target of 534 runs.

Australia’s chase never gathered momentum as its batting folded under immense pressure. Even a gritty 89 by Travis Head and a 47-run effort by Mitchell Marsh were insufficient as the home side collapsed to 238 on Day 4. The Indian bowling attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah (3-42) and Mohammed Siraj (3-51), was relentless in not giving the Australian lineup a single moment to relax.

The decisive moment arose when Bumrah sent Head and Marsh back without much of a fight, putting paid to the Aussie hope of launching a comeback. Prior to this, Indian bowlers had consistently applied pressure, while Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin Ravichandran also snatched crucial breakthroughs.

The emphatic victory under the circumstances once again displayed the penchant of India to bounce back and do the impossible. They have set down a marker with this win but have given Australia plenty to talk about ahead of the second Test.

The teams will meet in Melbourne again where Australia would look to redeem themselves from this crushing defeat while India will try and increase their lead.
